Game Recap

The first half of this game was a lot of feeling each other out. Not just Windsor vs Cape, but also both teams trying to see how the officials were going to call the game. That was the hardest part as there were a lot of whistles and stoppage of play throughout the first half, while both teams mainly played from box to box. Cape did not have any real scoring threats and the Owls only had three, which is a slow half. With a 0-0 score at half, the Owls knew they were slowly cracking Cape’s defense and felt like it was only going to be time before they broke through. Time really was the answer as the Owls shortened their bench and kept the pressure up, but it took till there was 12 minutes left in the game before the defense finally cracked. The Owls had a corner kick that was served into the box by Cesar Bello. Jake Mahon went after the ball and the ball bounced off him and backwards to a waiting Connor Portlock. Portlock headed the ball back against traffic and into the net for a 1-0 lead. That was what they needed as the Owls would put a second goal in with 8 minutes left, when Portlock sent a through ball at midfield to Cody Wilson. Wilson seems to run faster with the ball and he just literally out ran his defender and snuck the ball under a diving goalie for the security goal. Shawn Casey manned the net with 3 saves for his shutout, with his defense standing tall in front of him. Final score 2-0. (5-8)

Game Recap

The varsity Owls came out flat as they knew their competition was down for the season. Because of that attitude it took the Owls over 20 minutes to score their first goal and Festus never backed down and had put some pressure on Windsor’s defense a few time in that span. The Owls finally got on the board, but it took more of a lucky opportunity for it to happen. Isaac Rocheville would beat his man down the left wing and with the goalie half way out, Rocheville took a left footed shot that went right passed the goalie’s fingers and took two bounces before going in. Cody Wilson could have finished it for Rocheville, but let the ball go in on its own for a 1-0 lead. Ty Reed set Rocheville up for that finish. Michael Eby was just missing with two post hits, before connecting on a shot from 20 yards out, when he had a nice centered pass from Caleb Rueweler. The best goal of the night was the Owls 3rd goal, when Tanner Berry got a ball in the corner and beat one defender to slot the ball back towards the middle of the box. Gary Ziegler was charging hard and one-timed the ball into the net for his first points on varsity. With a 3-0 lead at half time, Windsor knew one more goal would finally break Festus down and they came out with tons of pressure. It took about 8 minutes before Cesar Bello danced around two defenders and then poked the ball past the goalie. Bryan Neff would hook Connor Portlock up on the 5th goal and then Eby would finish the scoring with a penalty kick conversion. Shawn Casey locked down the shutout with his three saves. Final score 6-0. (4-8)

Game Recap

The JV owls started their week on the right foot as they put together another strong performance that led to a win. The Owls did all their damage in the first half and continued the pressure in the second. Whitfield’s goalie in the first half kept them in the game, as the Owls could have easily had 8 goals, but settled for 4 instead. Gabe Dohack would score the Owls first two goals, as he was slotted two different times for the finishes. Cameron Gay and Esteban Borja Pena were the assist men on those plays. Joe Fenlon would get his first goal, when Brandon Bowen’s mishit went right to Fenlon’s feet and he finished without thinking twice. The final goal was just a play between the two forwards when Dohack took the role of a passer and gave Dylan Sullivan a through ball that he could finish. The goal for Sullivan was well needed as he has been so close in every game for the Owls, but couldn’t quite finish. Hopefully this will get him going down the stretch. Austin Bagley secured the net with 2 saves, but let one ball slip by him in the second half when there was a defensive breakdown. Other than that mishap, the Owls defense stood tall and made Bagley’s job pretty easy on the day. The second half goalie switch for Whitfield paid off big time, as he was able to keep the Owls at bay on numerous occasions. Final score 4-1. (2-4)

Game Recap

The JV squad pulled out their first victory and it only took them 15 seconds to get the only goal they would need to win the match. Cameron Gay gave a through ball to Esteban Borja Pena and Borja Pena didn’t hesitate with a shot that surprised the entire Fox team. The Owls would hold onto the 1-0 lead till there was about 10 minutes to play in the game. Gay again was in the play, when he was tackled for a foul. This set up a free kick from 22 yards out, that Jake Mahon buried in the upper corner with the goalie getting his fingers on it. Austin Bagley has been the backbone of these team, since he entered the net against Oakville last Friday and he was at it again in this game. He recorded 6 saves to preserve the shutout. Final score 2-0. (1-4)

Game Recap

The Owls got their redemption on the Fox Warriors by the same score that Fox put on them earlier in a preseason tournament. The game was played between the boxes for the majority of the night. However, Ty Reed was feeling it from the beginning as he ripped a shot that probably no other goalie would have saved besides Fox’s. That was the talent the Owls knew they were going up against and he spoiled plenty of opportunities on the night. Reed would not be denied and he got his payback in the second half, when Tanner Berry took a ball into the corner and sent it into the box. Reed attacked it on a header and buried it without the goalie even moving. The Owls would hold onto the 1-0 lead as Shawn Casey made 6 saves to keep the shutout on the board. Final score 1-0. (3-8)

Game Recap

The JV Owls played their best game of the season and that style of play led to numerous scoring opportunities. The downfall of all this is that the team could not convert any of these opportunities. They had a 0-0 game at half time and came back out to continue their dominant play. They found themselves down 1-0 with 8 minutes to play on a miscommunication play from defender Brandon Ruegge and goalie Austin Bagley. This didn’t stop the pressure that Windsor would apply as they were in Northwest’s half the rest of the game. They had three balls roll across the face of the goal, but no one was at the back post to tap it in. This small missteps are what led to another lost for the JV team. Bagley made 8 saves in the contest. Final score 1-0. (0-4)

Game Recap

The Owls played their typical slow start that led to Northwest taking a 1-0 lead. The Owls fought back and tied it up when a misplay back the defense allowed Cody Wilson to slide after a ball and tip it past a diving goalie. With a 1-1 tie the battle really started with good physical play, but bad defensive plays on corner kicks allowed Northwest to score two quick goals for a 3-1 lead. They put another goal past goalie Will Fenlon for a 4-1 half time lead. Windsor came out playing under a more controlled style and had a few opportunities, but couldn’t get anything to go in, while Northwest scored off another corner kick with 56 seconds left in the game. Fenlon would make 7 saves on the night. Final score 5-1. (2-8)

Game Recap

Playing an opponent for the second time in a season can go two different ways. You can improve on your previous performance or fall apart completely, which the Owls did not do. Windsor held on strong and put up a defensive wall that kept Oakville at bay for the majority of the first half. The Tigers were able to put a couple past goalie, Will Fenlon, but they had to be weird angles and far distances. Fenlon did his best effort to keep the Owls in it as he recorded 10 saves in the first half, while the Owls offense had few opportunities to score and didn’t convert the chances. With a 3-0 half time deficit, the Owls felt they were comfortable in that position and thought they may be able to get a goal or two to cut into the score. However, the weather would no longer hold off and lightning flashed one too many times to continue play and the game was called after 53 minutes. The Owls turned a 7-2 defeat last time, into a 3-0 loss this time. That there shows improvement from this squad as their season progresses. Final score 3-0 loss. (2-7)
