Game Recap

The Owls came out playing a good team game and were able to contain the Raiders offense. They forced North County to take shots from a distance and allowed Jared Tanner enough space to see the shots. The Owls moved the ball well and were able to apply some pressure into NC’s third of the field, but couldn’t challenge their keeper with shots. They went into half time with a 0-0 score and the Owls were feeling like they had frustrated NC enough that they would be able to attack and take a lead. However, 34 seconds in North County played a give and go and their speed got past the Owls’ defense and they took the lead. NC would score again on a similar play a few minutes later. Windsor didn’t give up as they had three different chances on through balls that they just couldn’t capitalize on with Cody Wilson, Dylan Sullivan and Esteban Borja Pena. The Raiders would get one more goal with about 10 minutes left to play. Windsor emptied the bench for everyone to gain some experience this far into the postseason, along with letting the seniors finish out the game. Windsor would have one more chance that Cameron Gay put a free kick to Gary Ziegler’s head and the header went off the crossbar with 2 minutes to play. Tanner would make 14 saves in the game to keep the Owls in it and Austin Bagley would record 2 saves in the final 9 minutes. Final score 3-0. (11-13-1)

Game Recap

The Owls achieved something for only the second time in school history. They brought home a district championship to the Owls Nest. There was a very relaxed and focused feel to the Owls during pregame warm-ups and that confidence carried onto the field. They controlled the ball and had a chance or two, but Hillsboro’s goalie kept them in it. Hillsboro made a few pushes of their own, but the Owls stood strong during the early going. A little over 7 minutes in the Owls would strike when Cole Stelling beat a couple defenders and hit a shot to the far post. The goalie made a save, but Dylan Sullivan was there to poke it away from him and Cody Wilson buried it for the 1-0 lead. Both teams would battle for the remainder of the half with the Owls getting the better opportunities. With just under 30 seconds left in the half Windsor received a corner kick. Stelling took his time setting it up and made a good connection on the ball that Anton Sokolic would get his head on and hit it off a defender for a goal with 4 seconds left in the half. Windsor kept their focus throughout half time and came out dominating from the kickoff. Even though they were dominating, Hillsboro’s goalie continued to keep the Owls at bay. However, on a Windsor free kick Connor Portlock would be taken down in the box and the Owls would receive a penalty kick. Tanner Berry would convert the opportunity for a 3-0 lead. Jared Tanner would make 3 saves in the shutout. Final score 3-0. The Owls will play on Tuesday, 10/31 in a sectional match-up between either Farmington or North County. (11-12-1)

Game Recap

Windsor came out controlling the ball and continued to work DeSoto’s defense from every angle. A little over 9 minutes into the game, the Owls would strike when a shot by Esteban Borja Pena would be saved, but the rebound was poked in by Dylan Sullivan as he was flipped over by the goalie. Six minutes later, Carter Schmutzler would make a push from his defensive position and slot Connor Portlock for a finish and 2-0 lead. DeSoto would cut the lead as a foul outside the box would give them a free kick. As the Owls were setting their wall up, DeSoto did a quick shot for a goal. The Owls would battle back on a goal from Sullivan, assisted by Portlock. A fourth goal with under 9 minute to play in the half, by Cody Wilson was set up by Grant Siegel. With a 4-1 lead at the half, the Owls knew they had to continue with their game plan in the second half and they would wear the Dragons out with 6 more goals. Sullivan, Portlock, and Wilson would end the evening with a hat trick a piece. The 8th goal was scored by Brandon Bowen, his first varsity goal. Assisted in the second half would come from Borja Pena, Sullivan, Portlock and two from Cole Stelling. Jared Tanner would make 3 saves in the win and Austin Bagley would close out the last 10 minutes of the game in net with 1 save. Final score 10-2. (10-12-1)

Game Recap

The JV squad played their last game of the season away at Union last night. The boys came out with some added energy knowing that it would be their last time playing together this season. However, that energy did not come with a quality of play. They were struggling with their first touch and not possessing the ball like they know they can. But the energy they came to play with created some scoring opportunities late in the first half. Javier Zaragoza scored a goal on a great individual effort after receiving a pass from Hunter Metteer. Javier was able to beat three defenders and place a shot low in the corner to beat the Union’s goalie for a 1-0 lead. A few minutes later Max Kimbrough received a pass from Zaragoza. And with some great hustle, Kimbrought was able to score. And right before halftime, Zaragoza was able to score again. This time from a pass from Isac Bello. In the second half the Owls were able to clean up their play and possess the ball more. However, Union also tightened up their defense. So the final score remained 3-0. Ian Phares made two saves. The JV squad ended their season with a .500 winning percentage and a record of 10-10-1.

Game Recap

Playing the final regular season game of the year, the Owls looked to get redemption on Union from a 3-1 loss earlier in the year. As the first half started the Owls were controlling the play between Union’s 15 yard line and the Owls 40 yard line, but couldn’t get themselves into the box for any good scoring chances. The entire half would be like this, as Union only had 4-5 opportunities to threaten the Owls. Half time allowed the Owls to refocus and make an adjustment and were able to score 5 minutes into the second half. Cole Stelling got the ball on the outside and put it right on Esteban Borja Pena’s foot. Borja Pena did the rest as he beat three defenders and gave Windsor the 1-0 lead. That goal gave the Owls the energy they needed to finish the game out as they continued with the pressure. Union started to get chippy and the Owls kept their composure and it turned into a free kick right outside Union’s box. Connor Portlock would hit it low and inside the post for a 2-0 lead. Jared Tanner recorded the shutout on 5 saves. Final score 2-0. The Owls open up district play on Monday as the #1 seed against DeSoto @ Hillsboro @ 5:00. (9-12-1)

Game Recap

The JV squad took on the North County Raiders in their last home game of the season. Both teams came out with energy in the first half. Both teams played similar styles of play, which lead to end to end action. However, neither team was able to convert any of their chances and the score would be 0-0 going into half time. The Owls did not match the Raiders energy or intensity in the second half. The Raiders were able to control the ball and played with speed, which the Owls could not keep up with. This led to two North County goals and the Owls would be chasing the game for the rest of the half. The Owls would eventually lose this one 2-0. Jared Tanner made 8 saves. The JV squad plays their last game of the season on Wednesday at Union. (9-10-1)
