With the weather not letting up both teams were going to have to battle their opponent along with the cold and rain. Both teams had their opportunities throughout the first half, with Windsor getting the better options. Windsor’s defense forced Hillsboro’s opportunities to be from far distances, which made Jared Tanner’s evening a little easier to start. However, the Hawks would break through 17 minutes in on a shot that was deflected by Jake Mahon into his own net. This didn’t faze the Owls as they picked up their teammate and threatened at the other end when Tanner Berry was fouled in the box by the keeper. Mahon would convert the penalty kick to tie the game up 1-1. Going into the second half, the Owls controlled the possession, but Hillsboro had their own chances in the half. Tanner in net and the defense continued to stand tall and not bend to their opponent. While the Owls offense continued to put tons of pressure on the Hawks defense, with their best chance off of a corner kick and Anton Sokolic hit perfectly. However, the Hawks goalie made the big time save. This game was a true battle and it could only go to overtime to decide the winner. The Owls momentum from the last 10 minutes of the second half carried over into OT and a Hillsboro foul would end up being the dagger. Jake Mahon would hit a perfectly placed ball from 40 yards out into the box, where Berry was able to get above everyone else and redirect the ball on a header to the side netting for the winner 7 ½ minutes into OT. This victory gave Windsor back-to-back District Championship in Class 3, District 2. Final score 2-1 win. (14-11-1)
